Careers in Biology
The 20th century is being hailed as the biological century because of emerging issues in everything from genetically modified organisms to the effects of climate change of endangered species to emerging diseases. It seems clear that individuals trained in biology will continue to have excellent career opportunities, and projections are for biological jobs to continue to expand into the long term.
Graduates from the Biology Program are well equipped for careers in industry, academia, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations. Many biology majors go on to graduate or professional schools after receiving their B.S. degree from OSU. Some examples of OSU biology graduates employment are:
- forensic scientists
- field ecologists
- agency biologists for wildlife and natural resources
- physicians
- veterinarians
- dentists
- marine biologists
- environmental consultants
- sales representatives for pharmaceutical companies
- biotechnology and other laboratory research technicians
- teachers and researchers in high schools, community colleges, and universities
