Michael knew he wanted to continue his involvement from high school at OSU, but he had no idea how far it would take him. He began as an intern with ASOSU (Associated Students of Oregon State University) during his freshman year and gradually worked his way up to being elected ASOSU Student Body President during 2006/2007. During his presidency he managed 35 staff and 60 interns, as well as a nearly $786,000 budget while representing the students of OSU around campus and Oregon. In addition to his student government responsibilities, Michael volunteered with Escape Hunger, Relay for Life, 4-H, Food for Lane County and many other organizations. Michael had the following to say about his community involvement and experiences in student government:

"OSU and college in general will offer you a multitude of opportunities beyond your wildest dreams and expectations...the only trick is recognizing them and taking advantage of as many as possible!"

Michael plans to apply to dental school next year after completing his degree and a medical internship in Africa.
